The Dangers of Hair Relaxers

We created the above infographic so people could be aware of how they were self-harming. A Boston University study shows that any hair product that carries hydroxide chemicals causes hair loss, alopecia, fibroids in the uterus, and early puberty. If you have relaxed your hair before, and have boasted about being drug-free or never trying drugs, then you’re lying.

The ingredients within lye and no-lye relaxers can be more harmful than some prescription drugs. The use of relaxers (perms) should be sought as an addition, and a form of drug abuse. If you have ever used a chemical that is made with hydroxide, there is still hope for you.

It is time to take care of your health, your self-esteem, and your body. Create a better you and go natural. Our team started transitioning from relaxed to natural back in 2010. I actually did not cut all of my relaxed hair off until 2012. I have been lye-free for five years now.

One of my colleagues was diagnosed with chemical alopecia back in 2006. After she went natural, her hair completely grew back. But, she started losing her hair again, a few years after growing it all back. We couldn't figure out what was wrong.

She was recently diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness) this year. She started taking DHT blockers, and it grew back even that much faster. How hard do you think it would have been for her to grow it back if it was still being relaxed? She would have been completely out of hope. We know the dangers of chemically treated hair.
